CANADA WINS!!

I don’t like hockey. Never have. The violence, the ridiculous money, the toxic culture—it’s just not for me. But last night? I was cheering. I was yelling at the screen. And yeah, I was calling out the bullies.

Because last night wasn’t just about a game. It was about something much bigger.

A few days ago, Trump made one of his usual ignorant and disrespectful comments, calling Canada the “51st state” and referring to Trudeau as a “governor.” It was arrogant, dismissive, and honestly, not surprising coming from him. But it was also a slap in the face to anyone who believes Canada is its own country, not just some extension of the U.S.

So when Canada’s team won last night, it wasn’t just about hockey—it was a moment of pride, a statement that we’re not just some afterthought. We are not America’s sidekick.

I don’t have to love hockey to recognize when a moment matters. And this one did.

And yeah, I was also calling out the dirty plays, the bullying on the ice. Because even in victory, we need to recognize what’s broken. The game is still brutal, still drenched in money, still has deep issues with misogyny and abuse. Winning doesn’t erase that. But last night, it was about something more than just the game—it was about pushing back against disrespect, about standing tall as a country, and about proving, in our own way, that we don’t need Trump’s approval.

So no, I’m still not a hockey fan. But I am a fan of moments like this.

Did you watch? Did you feel it too?
